Pueblo West began as a planned community in the late 1960s, developed by McCulloch Oil Corporation as a master-planned suburban alternative to the city of Pueblo. What started as open high-desert land with wide streets and generous lots has grown into one of Pueblo County's most desirable communities, now home to over 30,000 residents and still expanding. Lake Pueblo State Park is practically in the backyard, offering boating, fishing, swimming, and camping year-round. The Pueblo West trail system connects neighborhoods through parks and open space. Shopping along Highway 50 has expanded with grocery stores, restaurants, and retail. The community is served by Pueblo County School District 70 with highly-rated schools.
Pueblo West homes tend to be newer construction compared to central Pueblo, with many built from the 1990s through today. These homes typically have modern HVAC systems, but the high-desert environment — intense sun, alkaline soil, and wind-driven dust — takes a toll on outdoor equipment faster than homeowners expect.
